Nick’s Pick | BBQ-Glazed Beef & Apple Burgers
with Curly Leaf Side Salad
He shoots, you score! This winning recipe gets the nod from Nick Suzuki, Montreal Canadiens captain. How ’bout them apple burgers? That’s right, we’re giving family burger night a fruity new spin. It’s as easy as working grated apple into ground beef, generously seasoning the patties with uplifting notes of lemon and herbs from our Citrus Garden blend. Brush them with BBQ sauce before tucking them into toasted potato-scallion buns. For more frills and fun, put together a curly leaf lettuce and cabbage salad, dressed in an apple-tahini vinaigrette.

Preparation

Prepare the patties
Grate the apple. In a large bowl, combine the beef, apple, spices and S&P. Form into 4 patties.

Cook the patties
In a large pan, heat a drizzle of oil on medium-high. Add the patties* and cook, 3 to 5 min. per side, until cooked through. Brush with the BBQ sauce. Transfer to a plate and keep warm. Wipe out and reserve the pan.

Make the salad
Meanwhile, roughly chop the lettuce. In a second large bowl, combine the lettuce, cabbage, vinaigrette and S&P.

Toast the buns
In the reserved pan, heat a drizzle of oil on medium. Add the buns and toast, cut-sides down, 1 to 2 min., until warmed through and beginning to brown. Spread the cut-sides with 2 tbsp butter.

Plate your dish
Divide the bun bottoms between your plates. Top each bun bottom with a patty, a spoonful of the salad and a bun top. Serve the remaining salad on the side. Bon appétit!
*Health Canada recommends cooking ground beef to a minimum internal temperature of 71°C.
